History of Embroidery
Explore the when and why of embroidery. Learn and see samples of the different categories along with the materials and patterns used. You will get a sewing kit which includes all materials required to practice on your own Sampler for embroidery, plus 2 different cross stitch methods to work. Learn how hand embroidery improves everyday skills plus helps with emotional health. Taught by Deborah Bohnenstiel. Class will be held in the Lodge.

Lecture/Demonstration: Bead Embroidery Introducing and demonstrating a centuries-old stitching technique traditionally employed for embellishing gowns and other garments, church vestments, and art works. One tiny bead or gemstone at a time is picked up with a needle and thread, then meticulously and laboriously hand-sewn to a fabric substrate, creating designs of color and texture. Lecture/Demonstration: “Oshie” Inspired Applique “Oshie” is an ancient Japanese technique of gluing pieces of padded silk onto paper to create figures and scenes. Textile artist Diana Yum-Bucher has adapted the technique to hand stitchery, making it more durable and useful for jewelry, garments, and decor. Learn about this art form, how it is constructed, and the tools and materials involved. Though Diana mainly employs it for jewelry, see examples of how you can apply it to other forms of textile artist. Workshops in this medium coming in spring!
