Intro to Hand-built Ceramics, Part I Intro into the properties of clay. Create a pinch pot, slab tray, and slump bowl. Apply texture. Taught by Lynn Davis and Sherri Scott. The class will be held in The Pottery.

Sun, Sept 7 | 1-4p

Cyanotype Nature Printing  We'll gather leaves and natural elements from the Riverhouse grounds to create stunning nature prints in vibrant Prussian blue. All supplies provided. Taught by Bryant Galloway Whelan. The class will be held in the Studio.

History of Embroidery  

Explore the when and why of embroidery. Learn and see samples of the different categories along with the materials and patterns used. You will get a sewing kit which includes all materials required to practice on your own Sampler for embroidery, plus 2 different cross stitch methods to work. Learn how hand embroidery improves everyday skills plus helps with emotional health. Taught by Deborah Bohnenstiel. Class will be held in the Lodge.

Beginner/Intermediate Intro to Hand-built Ceramics, Part II. Continued intro. Apply glazes to previously constructed, now bisque-fired, pinch pot, slab tray, and slump bowl for final cone 5 firing. Arrangements will be made for pickup of final fired pieces. Taught by Lynn Davis and Sherri Scott. Class will be held in The Pottery.

Fabric Arts: Paint a fun, 2'X3' Canvas Rug Your choice of design, drawn out for you in advance. 

Taught by Patty White in the studio. This class is always fun!

Lecture/Demonstration: Bead Embroidery  Introducing and demonstrating a centuries-old stitching technique traditionally employed for embellishing gowns and other garments, church vestments, and art works. One tiny bead or gemstone at a time is picked up with a needle and thread, then meticulously and laboriously hand-sewn to a fabric substrate, creating designs of color and texture. See and hear about history, techniques, tools, and applications relating to this art form, brought to you by award-winning bead artist Diana Yum-Bucher. Workshops in this medium coming soon!

Lecture/Demonstration:  “Oshie” Inspired Applique   “Oshie” is an ancient Japanese technique of gluing pieces of padded silk onto paper to create figures and scenes. Textile artist Diana Yum-Bucher has adapted the technique to hand stitchery, making it more durable and useful for jewelry, garments, and decor. Learn about this art form, how it is constructed, and the tools and materials involved. Though Diana mainly employs it for jewelry, see examples of how you can apply it to other forms of textile artist. Workshops in this medium coming in spring!

Vessel Fundamentals: Wheel and Coil 

The functional vessel is the heart of the potters craft. This course will provide a foundation for creating vessels on the wheel and coil and pinch methods that will stand up to the standards of rich history and traditions of utilitarian pottery. Taught by Zach Sierke in The Pottery
